Wolfram Words Reference App App Reviews

‎"The Words iPhone app misrepresents itself as being in English only. Because Im in France its only giving me French output in many areas: homophones, scrabble words, ... This is all despite my input words, UI and keyboard being English . There are no settings that allow me to change W|As incorrect inference that I want French output!"

Despite the fact that Stephen Wolfram is British, the app is heavily focused on American English. Although it will provide a definition for colour as well as color, it cant find words rhyming with colour! It would be very helpful if you could select British English as the preferred option. Otherwise, its delivers lots of useful information for writers including notable uses of words, anagrams and crossword clues, acronyms, words "beginning with", or "ending in" which is really useful if, for example, you want to find all words ending in "mount" or any other word ending. The app isnt orientation sensitive so it doesnt rotate if you rotate your iOS device. On the iPhone, it only works in portrait mode. Whats hard to understand is why its the opposite on the iPad, where it ONLY works in landscape mode! For these reasons it loses two stars.

Wolfram Alpha should be embarrassed to have their name on this half-baked app. When it works, its surprisingly unhelpful. When it doesnt work, the error messages (or lack thereof) are confusing. I try it periodically (naively) and its 50-50 whether it will even return an answer for something simple like finding words containing "qu".

Poorly designed, poorly executed, and incredibly shallow information. Got fooled by the Wolfram name.

- doesnt work offline - cant preset all search categories - not user-friendly - no bookmarks or favorites - no correction while typing in a word - no instant search, you really have to tap "Enter" button, so out-of-date

This does not replace a dictionary … rather, it adds useful utilities to a good internet dictionary, plus it is fun to use, which is why I have honored the Wolfram Words Reference App as my app of the day … this app may make me into a great poet for now I can rhyme :)

I usually like Wolfs products but this one is not very refined. Search engine seems to not understand more often than what it should. Not an improvement over my regular dictionary. Id think that typing/pasting in the word once would be enough. Ill keep it, now that Ive bought it, in hopes that improvements are in the works. Id love to give this app 5 stars.

It helped me beat my friend playing Words With Friends which I am pretty bad at. Most helpful app ever!!

Love it! Not everyone seems to be impressed but it works for me; there is never too late to learn something new ...

Im always looking for unique words and information in crafting trivia puzzles for my app and this program helps tremendously.

This app is ok it has a lot of choice and its great for scrabble but it needs to stop crashing everytime I go on it plz fix

UI needs work as there are top header black space issues...plus its not that much different then regular Wolfram Alpha it just organizes the categories pertaining to word choices you searching for. If you own Wolfram Alpha I would not recommend this Words addition since it does all this and more already.

If you dont have an Internet connection this app is pretty much useless. I really dont find many apps that I hate but I can never use this one when I need it.

I bought this on Wolframs reputation and I am very disappointed in the limited lexicon. Most times Wolfram cannot find a word I am searching. I am going to remove this app because Websters has a better success at finding definitions than Wolfram. I really expected more from Wolfram. I question whether the Wolfram of Mathmatica fame even still exists.

I play scrabble and attempted to use this app. Too many times words found in scrabble dictionaries were "unknown" on this app. No good.

Its a useful app but it constantly crashes or freezes so I uninstalled it.

this is garbage on the ipod, but very useful on the ipad.
